Modifications to the experimental kiln
Following the cone 8 firing, the kiln has been modified and updated in a few important ways:
Preheat chamber
- Upgraded materials and insulation to allow for future use as a supplementary firebox for wood etc.
Heat recovery system
- New experimental stainless steel heat exchanger.
- Repositioned air inlets to kiln floor level.
- Separated air inlet pathways for primary and secondary air.
Gas burners and controls
- Replaced front access panel to preheat chamber/ firebox, removing gas controls to eliminate disturbance on startup.
- Repositioned gas controls and connections to the side of the kiln.
Door
- Hinged door converted to lift-off door.
- Fibre insulation additionally secured by button arrangement.
